Dr. Sara Macnaull

Advisor & Writer

Families have always been at the heart of Sara’s work. Having previously worked at the Vanier Institute of the Family and the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families, Sara has led various family-focused initiatives. Sara has worked with those who study, serve, and support families, including military and Veteran Families, from across Canada and around the world to better understand their diverse experiences and complex relationships.

Sara recently served as a member of the Family Advisory Council at The Royal Mental Health Centre in Ottawa and as President of the Canadian Families and Corrections Network, a national organization dedicated to assisting families affected by criminal behaviour, incarceration, and reintegration.

Sara holds a Master of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership from Carleton University and a Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation and Health Leadership from Queen’s University. Sara’s doctoral research explored the experiences and impacts of incarceration on the well-being of adult family members – many of whom are also impacted by substance use, mental illness, and trauma.
